Another interesting AP ME speech?with ramifications for our plan, this one from Vin Crosbie.
High/low points in my view (italics mine):
- Incubment's online edition's aren't making money. It's an accounting shell game.
- "...[C]onsumers gravitate to whatever medium best lets them satisfy their unique mixes of generic and individual interests...You need to begin tailoring an unique edition for each reader"
- "From 2010 onwards, the newspaper industry will have the technologies to produced a customized printed edition for each reader."
Why would they? Even if the printing is economical, the distribution isn't. - "For instance, I?m a soccer and Formula One racing fan. But my newspaper, The New York Times, rarely prints stories about those sports. Yet, I know The New York Times? newsroom has those stories because I was the Reuters executive who sold it that feed! Please let me be allowed to customize my edition so that I can receive soccer and F1 news and receive a little less American football and NASCAR."
Hey! He's been reading our business plan.
