Can I ask you a really dumb question? You seem to have some very ambitious plans centered around citizen journalism, news, and blogging, so why is it that you are even using a Typepad account? Typepad is generally for people who are either not technical enough or not serious enough to have their own installed service.

I figured it was just temporary but your last post said you were "growing up and getting your own Typepad account" which seems like an antimoron to me, given the business I think you're in.

Not a dumb question, and you're right on all counts. Having our own Typepad account is only another weigh-station on the road to our launch.

We're using one of the best (if not the best) proprietary CMS's for news content out there. The creators of that system are also developing lots of extra stuff to enable the sci-fi stuff we want that they don't already have.

For now, we don't want our blog or marketing site to be the least bit of distraction to that work, and we don't want to go buy servers or hosting that we don't need at this point.

I only got the new Typepad account because I felt we shouldn't abuse the generosity of our friend, Jeff, now that we had the means to do our own. Plus, I didn't have full access under his account and had to bug him every time I wanted to tweak anything.

Also, we're using some private blogs to communicate internally and with vendors, and again, don't want to hassle the guys doing the heavy lifting on the "real site" to fix them.
